EUSKADI KAPITAINA (CAPTAIN BASQUE COUNTRY)

ORIGIN:

Aitor Oñez Gamboa, born in 1915, is the fragile orphaned son of a mine unionist and a high middle- class lady assassinated by dictator Primo de Rivera's shock troops in Bilbao in 1923.

During the Spanish Civil War a failed attempt to create a super soldier by a Belgian Nazi treacherous alchemist almost killed him.

The experiment, where he would be just a dispensable guinea pig for a former pure Aryan recipient, was unexpectedly stopped by the bombs of German Ju-52s over Gernika in April 26th of 1937. Aitor, as slim as usual, could be rescued among the remains under an old shield that should have helped to his transformation. The shield, allegedly used by the mythic Jaun Zuria in the presumed Battle of Arrigorriaga, had saved his life so it was kept as a talisman.

Months later, after healing his serious injuries, he was assigned to a secret mission as member of the staff at the Treasury Department of the Basque Government. A shipment of nickel should be unloaded in the French coast to finance the future civil evacuation of Bilbao. The light guns of the Basque fisherboat were soundly surpassed by the artillery of the Fascist Navy destroyer they met in the mist. The confrontation ended with the certain sunken cargo and the whole crew lost.

In the 90's the Gulf of Biscay were prospected for natural gas. A submarine explosion took place when trying to perforate the soil near the forgotten location of the wreck. The divers extracted a strange nickel-made open cocoon from the sea. At the same time, a confused and shocked man emerged at Mundaka beach shore, the same place where the legend said that Jaun Zuria had landed more than 1000 years ago

Some months later, an overnight meeting with an old retired member of the first Basque Government was needed to face that the athletic young man in his thirties was really that old comrade lost in the sea almost 60 years ago.

Nowadays, Aitor, with a given new identity as accountant in a BBK Bank branch office in Portugalete, is intended to become a sort of uncovered agent secretly trained by the present Basque Government. He has been given his codename, uniform and the leadership of the “Eusko Babeski” Team

POWERS:

Euskadi Kapitaina is an athletic (artificially changed) man with a magical link to Ama Lurra (Basque Motherland) so his force, endurance and agility are doubled. He can even heal his injuries very quickly but, anyway, he wears a protective coat of mail too. He has followed an intensive training in martial arts and others hand-to-hand fighting techniques.

His almost unbreakable Jaun Zuria's shield serves him as a defensive, short, medium and long range weapon. Combined with his natural leadership he is the best election to command the Special Group
